You Haven’t Opened All Your Gifts Yet!

mocha momentsI pluck inspiration from various places…I open books randomly…read whatever paragraph my finger points to and determine how I can apply what I’ve read to my life. I saw this suggestion recently from Paul Myers and tried it a few times. It’s like a mini adventure:

“Take any two books off your shelf at random. Open each to whatever page they happen to open to. Read the left-hand page of each book. Now ask yourself: How are these things connected? How could they be connected? And how does this relate to my goals and achieving them? Try this for just five minutes a day for 21 days. You’ll find that the process gets easier and becomes so much fun that you can’t stop after just five minutes.”

Today’s inspiration came from a facebook app: What God Wants You to Know. It said:

You haven’t opened all your gifts yet. Your life can be deeper than the ocean, larger than the sky and richer than all the minerals in the earth. You have so much potential. Do everything you dream of. Keep discovering yourself.

Today I encourage you to do just that. Look closely for what SQuire Rushnell calls Godwinks – miniature messages along the way that guide you to use your gifts and to be your best self!

Sharing the gift of a connection

Recently at the launch of A World of Possibilities I met a young woman who sent this to me today. It was a perfect message in every way. I was reminded how short life is and how important it was for me to make the best use of my time and energy here on earth – to be involved only in those things that matter

to touch one’s heart,
to encourage one’s mind,
and to inspire one’s soul,

and most of all – to be a blessing to others.

Thank you Nirupa….

Living A life That Matters

Ready or not
someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises,
no minutes, hours, or days.

All the things you collected,
whether treasured or forgotten,
will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame,
and temporal power
will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned
or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments,
frustrations, and jealousies
will finally disappear.

So too, your hopes, ambitions,
plans, and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once
seemed so important will fade away.

It won’t matter where you came from,
or on what side of the tracks
You lived, at the end.

Through each day, our goal is..

to touch one’s heart,
to encourage one’s mind,
and to inspire one’s soul,

May you continually be blessed..
And be a blessing to others..

Oh – the music of the 80′s

I LOVE the 80′s!

I dream of throwing a huge party with me as the musical director – and yes you guessed it – only songs from the 80′s!

As I crawled in traffic today – heading east – I realized just how important music is in my life. Despite the traffic, I was transported to another world. I sang, reflected, shifted as much as I could in my seat, clapped, and basically looked mad to anyone looking in.

But boy – did I have fun!

I was in the moment. Everything else fell away, and it was just me and the music.

Music is a gift. It inspires – informs – and sometimes bridges the gaps between here and there – making them endurable but most of all memorable.

Reminds me of the O’Jays song – I love music – any kind of music…

“Music is the healing force of the world It’s understood by every man woman boy and girl”

If music isn’t a part of your life now, you are missing out on a healing like no other.

Music is in my DNA and I thank the Universe for that gift.

AMEN…

If you really knew me…

Popular folks have a hard time keeping their “dark” sides to themselves. Everything that happens in their lives is “news”. And today, with all the social media leveraging, and devices that make it easier to have the Internet in the palms of our hands – “news” spreads FAST!

Robert Downy Jr., Whitney Houston, Tiger Woods and Lindsay Lohan come to mind.

We feel great when stuff happens to other people because we don’t have to look at ourselves. We can judge and point fingers. We can make recommendations and find them wrong for doing what they did in the first place. We can piss on them from a height and then turnaround and walk away self righteously.

Yet we are all walking icebergs. What most people will see is the tip we choose to show.

If people REALLY knew you, they may not say the things they do, or judge you quite like they do. They may be less likely to make fun of you, or hurt you with their word swords.

But do you KNOW the real you or are you too busy fine-tuning the exposed ‘berg tip’ so that you look good, smell good, yet feel broken inside?

What would happen if you were to take a brave step in your life?

Not a 100 meter dash, not a marathon

…just a brave step?

Here’s some inspiration from Jana Stanfield…

And remember these words from Willy Jolly:

“A setback, is a setup for a comeback.”

Change is difficult – step or otherwise

There’s something to be said about persistence.

There’s something to be said about having a good support system in place particularly when you embark on an unfamiliar journey.

Kinda reminds me of the song “How Do You Keep The Music Playing” made popular by James Ingram and Patti Austin in the ’80s.

“How do you keep the music playing?
How do you make it last?
How do you keep the song from fading too fast?”

How do you keep the momentum, motivation and inspiration – not when life is sunny and forthcoming – but when things get rocky and the world around you looks nothing like the vision in your head when you started your journey?

“If we can be the best of lovers
Yet be the best of friends
If we can try with everyday to make it better as it grows
With any luck, then I suppose
The music never ends”

It’s so important to love ourselves; to be our own supporters; to keep our vision in focus; to not be thrown off by what is happening outside of us and to remember first that it always starts from within.

It means developing a ritual to support this, never straying far from what got you started in the first place. It means picking yourself back up and getting back on track. It means reminding yourself that this is just the second day haha! and things will get better!

You must set yourself up for success: the right books, the right thoughts, the right team.

Change is difficult yet today I remember – that the music is me and I intend to play out all my songs, that may outlast eternity!
