Money is Sacred

mocha momentsRead this in a blog post this morning and I realized that it wasn’t sitting well.

TTdollars newsgovttMoney is sacred.

I kept repeating it. There seemed to be no space in my psyche holding this thought.

Money has been associated with so many bad stories…

People living their lives for money – who’d do anything for it…steal it, use it to control others, gamble with it, buy favors, kill for it, become bitter because of it.

But I’m opening up my heart to embrace this new thought: Money is Sacred.

In Leonie Dawson’s post about Sacred Pricing she says that money is the manifestation of energy. There needs to be an exchange of energy whenever you provide a service. That energy comes to you in the form of money.

Money is sacred.

I’m sitting with this thought in the week ahead. I’ll probably write more about what unfolds for me. Who knows, I might even have a breakthrough or three!

How do you feel about money?

Are You Suffering From Wealth Inhibition?

As published in my weekly column in today’s Business Newsday

Money, as the basis of any discussion brings up queasiness. MONEY – It can be uncomfortable, unnerving and downright sticky for some! But if you’re in business you are going to have to get comfortable with money. You have to tell people what things cost, determine rates; negotiate deals and payment schedules etc.

The rich keep getting richer and the poor – poorer is a phrase that represents a ‘general think’ about money. If you think you are poor, chances are this thinking will make you poorer. If you are rich, you will continue laughing as they say all the way to the bank.

So what exactly happens when you are in between – neither rich nor poor?

Most peoples’ world view of wealth is as a zero sum game. The belief is that the available wealth on Planet E is limited. If this is your belief I am assuming that for every dollar you earn you will think that it came at the expense of someone else. Your gain equals another’s loss. Ah lie?

Think about the power of your ability to attract wealth resting in the form of a dial where you can either turn your wealth attraction power up or down. What if you could have your power turned on full?

But you see we are programmed to believe that if we operate on full power that it would be harmful and unfair to others. We believe that to be decent means that the minute too much money starts flowing into our lives that we must push it away. We begin thinking that we made that money far too easily and that we should be content with our fair share – but what is that exactly? Who determines what’s fair and what’s not fair?

How many times when you were playing your best game didn’t some careless soul tell you that you were too full of yourself? Teacher, writer and intuitive alchemist Hiro Boga says that when you are fully yourself it means you are cultivating your uniqueness – that which makes you unlike any other being in the world. It’s the task of discovering and honouring your own beauty, power, creativity, vision, and values; feeling your feelings; loving your body; nurturing your gifts; expanding into your potentials; extending your capacities. We live in a culture that is self-obsessed to such a degree that loneliness and isolation are endemic among us. At the same time, if you truly love yourself, delight in your own miraculous being, and express your joy and appreciation for who you are, you’ll most likely run into disapproval and judgment from the people around you. The unspoken message is: Who do you think you are, you egotistical, arrogant jerk?

There isn’t a lot of permission in our society to be full of ourselves, in the best sense of the word.

Whether you work in sales, identify yourself as a salesperson, or are in some other profession there are two things that always reflect wealth inhibition. One has to do with price. Most fear discussion of price, raising prices and are paranoid that their prices are higher than their competitors. The second is about being able to keep a straight face and a voice free of stammer, tremor or terror when quoting the fee! This may be the reason why a lot of art and antique dealers write the price down on a piece of paper and slide it across the desk to you. Our natural tendency is to discount before even being asked to do so out of fear, inhibition and presumption.

Dan Kennedy, known to be an irreverent, sarcastic but effective ‘Millionaire Maker’ says “the queasiness about price, about who somebody is selling to, about their ability to pay, and about their ability to afford it is all deadly. And the truth is, anytime you start to make those decisions for other people, it really reflects more about what’s going on internally with you than it does about anything else.”

If you want your wealth attraction to be operating at full power here’s what you need to understand. First – no queasiness. You can’t have any reluctance or any inhibition. Next you need to understand that whatever financial position anyone you know is in, anyone you do business with is in , or anyone period, is in, has nothing to do with you. Whatever the state of the economic affairs in the world, has nothing to do with how much wealth you accumulate.

Unless you can buy into this premise, I’m afraid you will always suffer from wealth inhibition.

The Power isn’t in the Money…

Radix Malorum est Cupiditas – The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

Money doesn’t grow on trees

If I just had more money I would…

It’s sad that so much faith is put in money. We think about money ALL the time. Getting more. Getting by. Getting out of debt. Winning the Lotto. Getting an inheritance.

Everything’s gonna be alright once I have enough money!

Where’s the power though – in the money – or within each of us?

Having left my job since 1994 I have always been responsible for making money to support myself. There have been good times and very bad times but this is what I’ve learnt:

Whenever I focus purely on ‘the money’ I usually find getting work much harder. Whenever I focus on what value I can add to someone’s life or how I can really make a difference then the money flows.

Money really has no power. We all can create the money we need based on the what we can give – the value we bring to the table.

We must recognize and respect the ideas that we get: the thoughts of making a difference, the dreams that we dream of solutions to pressing problems and instead of thinking that we could only bring those ideas to fruition WITH money – let’s channel our energies in stoking the fire of our DESIRE to bring the ideas to  life. Let’s work on our belief that it’s possible and that we would not have been given the idea without the option of its possibility. It’s really up to us. Our thoughts and ideas are our money.

As Robert Collier said: “The secret of success lies in this: There is inside you a Seed of Life capable of drawing to you any element you need, to bring to fruition whatever of good you desire. But like all other seeds, its shell must be broken before the kernel inside can use its attractive power. And that shell is thicker, harder, than the shell of any seed on earth. Only one thing will break it – heat from WITHIN – a desire so strong, a determination so intense, that you cheerfully throw everything you have into the scale to win what you want. “

In other words we need to take good care of our ideas (our money).

Let’s not just dismiss our thoughts as impossible. Let’s put faith where faith needs to be put – internally – on nurturing and growing those idea seeds.

If you can see it, then you start to feel it…

There is a beautiful song by Tuck and Patti called Dream that I loved the first time I ever heard it. It’s all about turning our dreams into reality and so there is a part in the song that gives instructions as to how to do that…

If you can see it
Then you start to feel it
The next thing you know, you believe
And that’s when dreams begin to come true

It’s the same set of instructions Napoleon Hill gives if you want to turn your desire into riches.

  • Decide on the amount.
  • See yourself already in possession of it
  • Really believe that it is already yours

Just seeing it is not enough.

Saying out loud that you want it – will not do you any good either.

Only when thoughts are mixed with feeling do they gain entry into the subconscious mind – that fertile field that will give you exactly what you ask for as it connects with Infinite Intelligence.

Think of it like your very own chemistry experiment with FAITH being the head chemist.

SEE IT

FEEL IT

BELIEVE IT

HAVE IT

Preparing Yourself for ‘The Shift’ when Facing a Crossroad

You are standing at a crossroads in your life — again! You’re not quite sure how you got here and you’re definitely not sure which way to go or how to get to “there” — wherever “there” is. Life has an amazing way of bringing us repeatedly to this place of confusion and dis-satisfaction. It’s confusing, yet it’s also a place rich with possibility. The solution lies in how you navigate your crossroads. If you can navigate your crossroads well, then you can successfully manifest what’s next for you and what your authentic self really wants.

Different women have different things they want to SHIFT in life. Some are doing well in their business or professional life, but want to shift their personal realm. Others are the opposite: they’ve got their personal life in order but their professional sides could use some focus.

Most women recognize that they need help and guidance in managing this shift, when they are experiencing some level of angst or dissatisfaction. It might be in the area of money, prosperity or abundance or, in the area of health, body or fitness or in their desire to create better relationships or more satisfying and creative work for themselves.

Expected Pain vs. Unwelcome Pain

Today I was certain which came first.

First I had the egg and then a couple of hours later – pain reared its head – searing blinding pain. I didn’t know if I was going or coming. Every time I thought “OK, it’s over” a new wave of pain ensued.

Of course when I set off this morning to run a couple errands and then go to breakfast, I never imagined that at two o’clock I would have been ‘stall arrested’ :) for a couple of hours!

Thank God, the pain finally subsided.

On a phone call to my mom this evening, I was saying that clearly I could never have children given the fact that I had this very low threshold for pain to which she cut through my ramblings and said “Nah! Childbearing is a completely different kind of pain experience. Childbirth is pain with purpose!” And I thought…”Hmmmm” and wrote down ‘pain with purpose’.

And she’s right. You expect that pain, you know it’s going to come, and you know when it’s going to end. You can prepare for it.

With unwelcome pain – you are not quite sure of the purpose and the uncertainty as to when it will actually end, is enough to cause additional pain and frustration.

The gurus tell us that we are wired to avoid pain and welcome pleasure.

Yet what should we do when pain comes without warning, without us expecting it?

Whenever I feel ill (as in today) I immediately start thinking of how I am when I am well. I am not trying to be Polly Anna positive, it’s just what I’ve always done. And some how it allows me to lean into the pain and come out on the other side with much gratitude for the many great days in which I have no pain and experience excellent health.

What do you do when you make a situation out to be painful as in a project for a client that is particularly challenging that you keep putting off the start day, and with every passing day feel more pain as you procrastinate?

Perhaps just like I do with physical pain you can visualize your payday – when you receive the cheque for your fantastic work with your client telling you that the phones are ringing off the hook and sales have doubled since using your creative piece in their marketing campaign.

When money isn’t good and you’re barely  making a living to provide for yourself or your family you can alleviate your present pain by visualizing how your eventual success will change your life.

Clayton Makepeace said “I designed my dream life in painstaking detail (notice that word pain coming up again) – and when I say painstaking detail I mean I wrote down where I wanted to live then researched how much my dream house would cost me there. I picked out my dream car, went down to the dealer and worked out what the color, options, price and payments would be. Then I added up what all the things I wanted would cost. And I figured out that when I got my income to just $223,917 per year, my dream life would be mine. From that moment on, I had a crisp clear mental image of why I was going to work everyday, why I was putting in the long hours and why I was enduring the humiliation of rejection and failure (both VERY painful experiences)”

I’m about to indulge in a pleasurable movie experience but would love to hear from you and  how you deal/cope with pain.

The one critical thing, that anyone working in the newspaper industry knows, that would make a success out of any business – guaranteed!

If you really want to understand how the human race behaves take a trip to the Emperor Valley Zoo and watch the chimps and monkeys for one week. First you’ll see them doing their thing but soon enough you’ll begin to recognize the many traits they share with us such as:

Being as lazy as possible – as much as possible.

I was once exceedingly lazy and to be honest, I don’t think the need to be lazy ever totally leaves your body. We talk quite often about wanting to laze around doing nothing all day or having a “lazy day”. The thing is, once I entered the world of newspapers my life changed forever. I picked up on the one tactic that changed my business view forever:

DEADLINES

In the newspaper industry: you just cannot be late. Missing a deadline means not being able to produce a daily paper on time, which means every single day of the week. You don’t have the luxury of skipping a day or asking for more time. Ads need to be placed by a certain time, or they don’t make the paper; specialty supplements take greater pains in planning especially if they are to accompany a daily paper as an insertion, usually days in advance.

Deadlines can be hateful little things to say the least but without them most projects go on and on, ad infinitum, with no end in sight. As inherently lazy creatures we need deadlines to be efficient.

In most businesses it’s acceptable to push back deadlines. So after all the money has been spent, paying the huge outside company to tell us what we already know (but didn’t have the time to conduct internally) and to suggest a certain course of action – we then play the deadline game – that of change – and quite never get around to doing ANYTHING!

Most books stay with the authors until their deaths as ideas are carried about and they ruminate on plots for years but never set a deadline for getting the chapters outlined, the chapters actually written and the book finally published.

Deadlines need to be a part of any business plan with no contingencies. Deadlines make promises realities. They form a full stop in this fantasy world of “tomorrow-land” that keeps us doing ballet (on our toes) and in line.

Committees are formed to “study” the problem, endless focus groups are created to “test” the problem, and reams of reports are written and shelved in an effort to “get at the problem.” All of this: BS!

The only way to attack a problem is to roll up your sleeves and get right to it. And please have a plan with a deadline for finishing it!

Yes…without a deadline, most newspapers would NEVER be produced so promise yourself to become a deadline setting monster and watch your business become successful at lightning speed.

What challenges have you had with getting things done? Would love to hear your comments!
