** HINT: It’s not a learning problem. It’s a clarity problem.

Not everyone sees what you see

You have been blessed with a particular way of interpreting the world. You may be able with confidence and speed to break down choices, drawing on past experiences. You might be an exceptional storyteller or possess the ability to mix whatever resources you have on hand with a helping of imagination and a dose of can-do optimism to create what’s never been done before or seems impossible. Or perhaps you are the person who sees negotiation as an artform and are excellent at brokering deals.

Regardless of what you do, your perspective differs from the rest. There may be areas of overlap, but you are still unique in what you do, and how you do it.

Your gifts give insight into your contribution role on Earth.

It’s what you do better than anyone else and tapping into it more often, will not only help you and those you work with but you’ll find your work more satisfying, too.

The thing is you may act in alignment with your gifts but not be able to clearly articulate what you do and how you do it.

I recently had a coaching session with a friend and colleague Jan Wallen. Jan is able to do for me, what I do for others – see those areas that are hidden or not clearly defined.

Jan’s philosophy is that you make more money when you talk about the results you provide.

As professionals we do what we do best without thinking about it but if you want to clearly define that, then it’s important for you to start taking and keeping notes on the results you’re getting for your clients. You can do that in a journal, in a word document or on an app like Evernote. This is crucial because there are so many little things that we miss or overlook that contribute to why someone should work with us versus someone else.

This is not about differentiation for the sake of differentiation. This is about knowing and understanding distinctly, what we are bringing to the table.

You don’t have to work like everyone else. You have to work like you. That begins with keeping a record because you will forget and that forgetfulness will cost you. Don’t let it!
