** HINT: It’s not a learning problem. It’s a clarity problem.

What’s your favourite excuse? Mine – “I don’t have time…”

I had a boss who taught me this:

Never enough time to do it right. Always enough time to do it over.

This in a nutshell, describes the shortcut. The time we spend looking for shortcuts, could be invested in the deep dive we need to make into those things that fuel and drive our purpose.

What problems do we see that need to be solved? What is it that you’re always going on and on about and feel that you could do something about it?

President Roosevelt stated in his first inaugural address that “we have nothing to fear but fear itself.” His objectives were to calm the economic fears of Americans, develop policies to alleviate the problems of the Great Depression, and gain the support of the American people for his programs.

I was examining my fear this morning. Truth be told, it never leaves me be. It has been the backdrop of my life forever.

What I realized today, is that this fear has created an overlay that keeps the real G, small and insignificant. I have deferred to this fear so many times that this impostor is now running or might I say, ruining my life!

And what does this have to do with not having enough time?

Put simply: it’s the reason that the impostor G offers to not make the time to do those things that are driving her nuts – those ideas and working sessions – that are haunting her to take action. The “I don’t have time” excuse ensures that she does not delve deep because delving deep into any area means that she will invite uncertainty and destroy her comfort. It’s so much better to skim the surface and remain comfortable.

Steven Pressfield talks a lot about resistance.

The more resistance you experience, the more important your unmanifested art/project/enterprise is to you – and the more gratification you will feel when you finally do it.

Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle

Replace resistance with fear and you will come to the realization that if, like me, you have been courting fear all your life, and that that fear is getting more and more unmanageable, then there is clearly something that you need to give birth to, that you seem hell bent on keeping inside of you.

As I say this to myself, I want you to know that this is also true for you:

You have something unique and special that wants to be born through you and ONLY YOU, can bring it forward. No one else can create from your perspective or with your unique ability. You have much value to add to Trinidad and Tobago, the wider Caribbean and the world at large. What you want for yourself is not impractical nor is it impossible.

It’s time to GO FOR IT!
