I was leaning into a recurring feeling today. It’s a regular visitor this feeling…and it’s never good. It surfaces thoughts of unworthiness and inadequacy; feeling less than and incapable. And then it occurred to me that this feeling is in fact a habit. It arrives right on time, almost every day, just before I start to do actual work: a client project, or writing for my platform, or studying my craft. This feeling is really the effect of the thoughts that I’m thinking which are habitual thoughts.
This my friends, is not new information. The difference to me was a connection between my head and my heart – a new awareness between what I logically know is true: Thoughts become real to what I deeply understand now at a very visceral level.
I know now beyond a shadow of a doubt that whatever we attempt to do physically, will always be trumped by our imagination – what we perceive to be true. This is why willpower alone will NEVER win. A new app will never solve the issue. Reading a book on the issue won’t change a thing. Getting an expert to take you through their process only brings more knowledge – not necessarily change.
If we truly want to effect change we need to replace what we’ve accepted to be true in the past, with a totally different suggestion. AND we have to be prepared to keep replacing the old thought with the new one, until it becomes our new normal.
No one can convince us to change without our consent. If we remain closed minded, know that change is not going to occur either. Only through personal experience and readiness is anyone going to change.
If you’ve been trying to take onboard new habits without success don’t beat yourself up. Old habits die hard. This is why change is short-lived after a quick injection, motivation, rousing of the troupes and everyone goes back to business as usual in a couple weeks. The effect dies and the group relapses.
Therefore it is important for you to not assume that you are awake to the truth about you. Like me, you may be hanging on to false truths, entertaining them every day…allowing them to hinder your progress.
Dr. Robert Anthony calls these “mistaken certainties” which have held you back from expressing the unlimited, abundant, wholesome, well-paid life that you desire.
A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.
Said differently, we have built and programmed these thoughts that have been reinforced ingrained into our subconscious minds, by us and over time, we respond to the way we have been conditioned to FEEL and ACT. We are responsible for creating the system and only we can change the patterns.
It’s time to take action:
- What habit do you want to replace?
- What habit will you develop to replace it?
- What actions will you take to replace the negative habit?
- What’s the easiest way for you to do this?
- Visualize yourself succeeding in changing the habit
- See yourself enjoy the benefits of that change
- Select an affirmation to support this visualization
Monitor your progress but don’t berate yourself if you relapse. Just course correct, reinforcing the plan you have developed to effect change.
Keep a record for at least 66 days. Yes 66. That is, if you a truly sick and tired of this particular habit. The choice is always yours.
If you keep doing this, gradually you will observe that your life will take a turn for the better. As the new habit becomes stronger we will be less tempted by the old habit.
If we don’t, we will never be able to escape what we’ve been told and taught, sold and bought.
