Whenever I talk to clients about choosing a niche, or focusing on solving one problem, or mastering some area of expertise, they always view this as cheating themselves out of something larger. Why narrow my focus when I can have it all? But there is wisdom in a narrow focus.

Have you ever had to concentrate of writing an article, changing a policy, creating a piece of music – anything that required your deepest thought and concentration?

I am seeing this unfold in the present moment, as I decided that what I was interested in is helping service providers develop and leverage their expertise.

What has happened since then is that all sorts of facts, and materials pertinent to this idea, seem to be pouring in. Things keep coming to me sometimes from unexpected sources. An idea surfaces, and I am immediately drawn to a book, which contains more information, around that very idea.

This has happened in the past for me as well. The answer might come from an episode in a television series I’m watching, from a magazine article I’m thumbing through while waiting to see my doctor, or something that a friend says in a conversation totally unrelated to what I’m focusing on.

The answers seem to come out of thin air, but really, our minds work like magnets. Whenever we focus on something, the answers we need are sure to come.

If you haven’t already done this – try it. Do one thing at a time. Concentrate your whole thought on it. Finish it and then forget it. You will begin to get the guidance you need to move on to the next thing. Faith and trust in this process is all you need.
