Every five years or so, I go through my books and decide what I’ll donate and what I will hang on to. This is difficult for me because I don’t like to part with books, but it is now a question of practicality – I don’t have the shelf space to keep all the books. Some MUST go. I appreciate my wisdom though, in holding on to a book that was in the “to go” pile, called The Power of Consistency by Weldon Long.
The connection between what we think and how we act, changing our thoughts and impacting what we manifest has either been explained so simply that we dismiss the explanation as not important, or in a way that our eyes roll towards the back of our heads in protest to the complex sentences streaming in our direction, and way too complicated to make immediate sense.
In his book Weldon describes it like this:
Imagine you have a box sitting in front of you holding everything you need to build a beautiful motorcycle. There are only the parts you need. Nothing else. Now imagine that you also have the tools and mechanical skills necessary to assemble this beautiful creation. You begin the process of removing the parts and as you do do, you put them together according to the mental image you have of how this machine is supposed to look once it’s finished. This is not random. You are working according to the picture of the motorcycle. You stay focused on completing the assembly. Nothing distracts you from your mission. Eventually all your hard work comes to fruition. You’ve used every part. The box is now empty and the final product stands assembled before you. Your common sense tells you that it’s impossible to create anything except what was in the box. You can only create a motorcycle. You cannot accidentally bake a cake.
The box is a metaphor for your mind. Whatever is in your mind is coming out, just like the parts in the motorcycle. These parts comprise of thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, choices and decisions.
Whatever come out of your mind will take form and create a perfect reflection of what was in your mind.
The results you’re experiencing are reflections of whatever is in your toolbox. Your toolbox is filled with a lifetime of thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, choices and decisions.
It is impossible to focus on creating abundance, and prosperity in your business and life, and accidentally create struggle and scarcity. What’s in your toolbox might be invisible but whatever you’re experiencing is a direct reflection of what’s in that toolbox.
So what’s in your toolbox?
You have 100% control over what goes into your toolbox. In order to begin working on your experience, you have to take a long hard look at yourself.
Weldon discovered that the way to change his destiny was to change what was in his toolbox.
I recently took Weldon’s advice, to empty my box of destructive thoughts and thoughts that constrained me and replace them with thoughts that would create the business and life I’ve always envisioned.
I’m sixty years old and when you get to my age, those folks working a job ask – so when do you plan to retire? I don’t want to retire in fact, I am playing down the word retirement, and using the word readjustment instead.
I recently read that in Korea, people think of beginning a new and different life at sixty. They assume a new birth, gearing themselves for new activity.
I think that where I started 28 years ago, has prepared me to help you get unstuck and get growing again, because I’ve made so many mistakes alongside having my fair share of wins.
If you’re stuck, chances are, it’s not an external fix…it’s internal and it’s probably hard to find if you don’t know where to look, but easy to remedy once you identify and isolate it.
For the rest of the year, in preparation for 2025, I’d like to help you figure out how to get unstuck. Take the first step…click here.
