Thinking May Be Hurting Your Bottom Line More Than You Realize

If I asked you “What drives your bottom line?” you might tell me your strategies, clients, or market conditions. But what if I told you your thinking—yes, your mindset—plays an even bigger role?

The way you think about your business, your value, and even your clients shapes the actions you take. And if your thoughts are rooted in scarcity—believing there’s not enough time, money, clients, or opportunities—it creates invisible barriers that hold you back.

The Hidden Costs of Scarcity Thinking

Scarcity thinking shows up in subtle ways:

  • Hesitating to raise your prices, fearing clients will leave.
  • Overworking to “prove” your value instead of trusting in it.
  • Focusing on what’s missing instead of what’s possible.

These thoughts don’t just affect your confidence—they directly impact your bottom line. They lead to missed opportunities, undervalued services, and burnout.

If I told you that instead of focusing on thoughts of scarcity, fear, doubt, negativity, or anything that consumed your life energy and resources, you could focus on Divine abundance, would you think I was talking about religion?

I’m not knocking anyone’s religion or saying that religion in and of itself is bad. What I am saying is that Divine abundance, as lofty as it may sound, is not reserved for those with unwavering faith or a religious practice. The truth is, Divine abundance has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with how you perceive opportunities—and act on them.

What is Divine Abundance?

Divine abundance is the idea that there is always more than enough—of everything. Opportunities, resources, wealth, clients, and even success itself. It’s the belief that you don’t need to struggle, hustle, or scrape to get what’s meant for you. Instead, you align with what you truly want and trust that it will come to you.

Sounds simple, right? But here’s where most of us get it wrong.

We’ve been taught to think in terms of “not enough.” Not enough time, money, clients, or talent. This scarcity mindset makes us cling to what we have, second-guess decisions, and overwork ourselves in the hope that hard effort will finally bring results.

But trusting in abundance requires a mindset shift: instead of asking, “How will I make this happen?” ask, “What’s the next best action I can take—and trust that the rest will follow?”

How can you make Divine abundance work for you?

This isn’t about sitting back and waiting for miracles. Trusting abundance is active, not passive. Here’s how I’ve made it work for me and my clients:

  1. Gratitude Over Grasping
Instead of obsessing over what isn’t working, I focus on what is. Every morning, I remind myself of three things I’m grateful for. This practice shifts my focus and often reveals new opportunities I previously did not notice.
  2. Clear Vision, Clear Actions
Trusting abundance doesn’t mean abandoning strategy. It means being clear on your value, who you serve, and how you serve them. When you’re clear, your actions align, and aligned action always pays off.
  3. Letting Go of Control
I’ll be honest: this one’s hard. But I’ve learned that trusting abundance means doing my part and releasing the need to control the outcome. I focus on serving, not on whether someone will say yes or no. And guess what? The yeses come faster.

Learning to trust…

Being a solo professional for the last 28 years has not always been easy and I’ve definitely had my fair share of challenges. I’m not going to lie to you and say that I’m no longer scared, nor am I going to tell you that I have transcended all self-doubt.

Recently, I found myself stuck, working harder than ever but seeing little progress. I felt frustrated and unsure about my next steps. That’s when I decided to shift gears. Obviously what I was doing WAS NOT WORKING!

I started focusing on what I could do daily. I created a framework of daily actions that I felt comfortable with. I simplified everything – my service offerings, my marketing, my outreach – EVERYTHING! I committed to taking one aligned action at a time. I stopped chasing and doing things for everyone except myself, and started trusting.

Just the other day, I reached out to a client in Grenada. We had done one project together, but I hadn’t followed up with her. I sent her a WhatsApp message, updating her about what I was doing now and suggesting a quick chat. She responded the next day saying, “How about 7 pm later today?”

When I got on the call with her, she told me that her team had just come off a retreat and was looking for someone to help with a project. She said, “You must have heard me and responded.” This is what happens when we let go of control of outcome, and let the Divine work its magic.

Now it’s your turn…

What would change for you if you started believing there’s more than enough success, wealth, and opportunities for everyone—including you?

The next time you feel stuck or uncertain, ask yourself:

  • What can I appreciate in this moment?
  • What action feels aligned with my vision?
  • Am I holding on too tightly to how this needs to play out?

Then take a deep breath, trust, and move forward.

Trusting in Abundance: The Shift That Changes Everything

When you shift into abundance thinking, it changes how you show up in your business. Your energy shifts from chasing to attracting. You become magnetic to opportunities that resonate with your expertise and value.

This isn’t theory; it’s how I’m building my practice now and it’s how you can, too.

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to stay stuck in scarcity. By shifting your mindset to trust in abundance, you’ll start to see opportunities where you once saw limits.

Abundance thinking helps you:

  • Attract clients who value your expertise.
  • Charge what you’re worth without second-guessing.
  • Build a business that thrives without overworking yourself.
