Choosing Joy, Wholeness, and Alignment Over the Chase
I think I stumbled over a worn copy of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill when I was about 18 years old. I didn’t quite grasp everything, but I knew that setting goals was a big part of that. Around that time I also found a book that I had to do some digging to determine the title and author, as the cover was gone. It belonged to my Dad. The name of that book was The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity by Catherine Ponder. Heady stuff for a young mind, but I was intrigued and hooked.
As I grew in age and experience, I read about setting BHAGs—Big Hairy Audacious Goals. I embraced the magic of thinking big and I added tools to my kit: affirmations, visualizations, and the law of attraction. Still, I felt as if I wasn’t really in control of the results I was getting.
I was running after metrics. I’d set a goal, a number, a version of success, and I always wanted that to happen fast. The truth is—despite great results, sometimes to my own astonishment—it never matched what I set. In most cases, it transcended anything I could have imagined.
Despite that insight, I still stuck with the goal-setting process. You know us humans—creatures of habit, LOL. Talk about misalignment. Setting goals I didn’t achieve, but getting results and not paying attention to what was happening there.
I’ve set ambitious goals for as long as I can remember—whether it was to hit a certain revenue, drop a certain amount of weight, or earn enough to finally feel “secure.” But with every milestone, the finish line moved. I never quite arrived.
And I’m not alone. As Justin Welsh wrote recently…
The finish line always moves.
So today, I’m choosing to do something radical:
I’m stepping off the track.
Inspired by a post by Karrie Sullivan, I asked myself two questions:
- who I want to be in this next phase of my life and
- what I want to outgrow.
I still want things. Let’s be clear. I want to feel financially fluid. I want to travel. I want to lose the weight. But I’m no longer willing to sacrifice my peace, joy, or alignment just to get there faster.
I’m building a life and business I actually enjoy now—not something I hope will feel better once everything’s “done.” That means:
- Writing because I love to write, not because it will go viral.
- Serving clients because I want to help them solve recurring problems—not just to close a deal.
- Walking every day because my body deserves care—not because I’m trying to race the scale.
And the magic? The more I focus on loving my process, and paying attention to what’s actually creating reality for me, the more things begin to flow naturally.
This isn’t just about business design or better routines.
It’s about identity.
I’m choosing to live like someone who already trusts herself.
Who doesn’t need to prove or chase.
Who understands that alignment is the attraction strategy.
I’m building the life and business I want—not because I finally “earned” it—but because I remembered I’m allowed to live it now.
🌀 REFLECTION
- Where in your life are you still running toward a moving finish line?
- What would stepping off the track look like for you?
🧭 ACTION TIME
Feel this? Share this. Or better yet—relieve some of that pressure you might be feeling about goals and results, then take one small, aligned action today.
The track will always be there. But your joy? That’s waiting now.
📞📥 LET’S TALK
If this stirred something in you… message or call me. I’d love to hear what track you’re stepping off—or the life you’re stepping into.
Maybe you’ve built a business you barely recognize… or you’re feeling disenchanted because it no longer reflects your original vision.
No pitch. Just presence.
