How long will it take?

Time governs all things business. If there is something to be done within a business, time is usually one of the main decision making criteria. We can’t afford to waste time. We want it done yesterday, and done well. When asked how long something will take we immediately feel pressure building. We told the client 3 days, 3 weeks or 3 months – yet can we do it in that time?

Perhaps a better question that still includes time but looks through a wider more comprehensive lens is – what will it take to make this happen?

Identify the key milestones:

What needs to happen first? Is this the simplest first step or is there a simpler step that comes just before, that we can easily start with? How can I move this forward with all the resources I have?

Now we’ve brought other factors into play, along with time. Now we know that to make this happen – here are the things we need, the expertise we’ll need along with our roadmap.

If speed is your main driver, you’ll get speed. However if you want to solve an issue once and for all, speed should not be your one and only consideration.
