How to Reverse Engineer your Perfect Customer Profile

If you’re a service provider struggling to define your perfect customer—don’t start with demographics. Start with YOU and how you’re wired to deliver value.

I use two tools to get radically clear on this:

  • WHY Discovery (via the WHY Institute)
  • MCODE (Motivational Code)

Both give you deep insight into why you do what you do, how you work best, and what others can consistently count on you for.

So how does this help you identify the right clients?

Here’s the strategic reframe:

Instead of asking, “Who do I want to work with?” Ask: “Given how I’m wired, who am I designed to attract and serve exceptionally well?”

Let me give you a live example—me.

My WHY is: Make Sense

I’m wired to diagnose complex situations and make the path forward clear. I’m not here to hype you up—I’m here to solve the root problem.

My HOW is: Mastery
I don’t skim. I go deep. If I’m offering a solution, it’s because I’ve studied it, lived it, and built it from the ground up.

My WHAT is: Trust
I show up with integrity. I deliver what I say I will. And I work best with people who value follow-through and truth over fluff.

Now layer in my Top 5 MCODE Motivations:

  • Realize the Vision
  • Be Key
  • Take Charge
  • Develop
  • Architect

These show that I’m here to lead people through vision-based transformation. I don’t just guide—I architect the plan, develop systems, and stay central to the work.

So what does that mean for attracting clients?

When I reverse engineer my energetic blueprint, I realize:

I’m meant to attract high-capacity, overburdened leaders who are trying to build something bigger than themselves

  • They’re smart, committed, and secretly overwhelmed
  • They don’t need fluff—they need clarity, direction, and structure
  • They value depth, confidentiality, directness, and execution

This becomes my perfect client filter. It’s not based on age, income, or niche—but on mutual values and energetic alignment.

Here’s the method I recommend:

  1. Discover your WHY, HOW, and WHAT
    → Try WHY Institute for a powerful foundation.
  2. Map your Top Motivations
    → I use MCODE, especially for identifying your leadership + delivery style.
  3. Reverse engineer your fit – Ask:
    • What kind of person naturally trusts me?
    • Who benefits most from the way I solve problems?
    • What kind of environment do I stabilize?
    • What triggers or drains me—and what does that reveal?
  4. Define shared values
    Once you’re clear on how you move, identify the kind of values and decision-making style that will resonate with your approach.
  5. Write your filter
    “I work best with people who value ___, operate like ___, and are ready for ___.” This becomes your strategic magnet.
