On May 7th, 2004, I Wrote Myself a Note

Be strong! Be faithful to your course!
Success is yours – you can do it!
Love you – Gis

I found that note today—one I wrote to myself 7,756 days ago.

Back then, I had already been in business for 3,321 days. I resigned from my job on December 25th, 1994, and have been walking the entrepreneurial road ever since. And yet, 9 years in, I was still promising myself that success was coming. That I had what it took. That if I just held on… I’d get there.

I was chasing success as if it were a finish line. Something out there. Something I had to earn.

But here’s what I know now:

Success isn’t a place. It’s a rhythm. It’s in how I show up every day.

Every time I:

  • Serve with clarity
  • Guide with compassion
  • Help someone see what they couldn’t before
  • Facilitate transformation
  • Hold space, even when I’m evolving too

…I am living the very success I used to think I had to reach.

This past week, I watched the movie – The Life of Chuck and it broke me open—in the best way. A quiet, strange, beautiful reminder that our lives aren’t the buildup to something greater. This – wherever and whatever we are living IS the show. Not the prelude, not a dress rehearsal, not someday in a distant future no one can see. RIGHT NOW!!

Not later. Not when the plan finally clicks. But now. Today. This hour. This moment.

That changes everything.

Wayne Dyer’s first secret of success is this:

Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing.

And that’s exactly how I am choosing to live as I grow forward. Letting go of rigid definitions. Letting my Hudson Alignment Framework™ evolve as I evolve.

This month, it became crystal clear to me: Client Retention—the pillar I once saw as the final act—is actually at the heart of everything.
When you deeply serve those already in your world, the rest flows:

  • You attract better.
  • You earn more.
  • You align faster.
  • You don’t waste time chasing what’s already here.

The Daily Stoic reminded me this morning:

We must not get so wrapped up in our work that we think we are immune from the reality of aging and life. Who wants to be the person who can never let go?

Not me.

I don’t want to cling to what was. Or wait for some final “arrival.”

I want to be someone who evolves. Who lets go. Who lives her alignment, instead of waiting to finally get it right.

And if I could respond to the Giselle who wrote that note 7,756 days ago, I’d tell her:

You are not just chasing success.
You are living it—every time you show up, care, and choose to begin again. You are not here to be fixed.
You are here to be revealed.

Today I know for sure…

I am wonderful, I deserve to be wonderful, and I contain multitudes – from The Life of Chuck, by Mike Flanagan, based on a short story by Stephen King

Amen to that.
