When the Giant is in your Head

Some Goliaths you can see — towering, armored, loud in their threats.
Others live quietly in your head.

Those mental Goliaths don’t need you to use a sling and a stone for them to fall. They need the truth but that truth needs to come from you.

Mental slavery is insidious. It’s when you start thinking in someone else’s voice, repeating their limitations as if they were facts. It’s when you run your business, and your life, on inherited fears and handed down shackles that confine and limit you. These chains aren’t on your wrists — they’re what’s keeping your thinking in bondage.

I’ve seen clients with all the resources to grow but paralyzed by the thought that they “aren’t ready yet” or “don’t deserve the bigger contract.” I’ve been there too — staring at an opportunity and wondering if I am qualified; whether I know enough to apply.

  • The Goliath isn’t the marketplace.
  • The Goliath isn’t the competition.

The Goliath is the story in your head that says, you can’t.

What I’ve learned in my own work — and what I help clients see — is that alignment is the giant-killer. When you know what’s true for you, when you design your business around that truth, no mental Goliath can stand up to you.

You don’t need to learn more, be more or hustle better. You need the truth: Thoughts can either weaken you or empower you. You always have a choice. You need not accept every thought that surfaces for you.

In his tremendously popular talk – The Strangest Secret – Earl Nightingale taught us that we become what we think about all day long.

Your mind is yours to control. You can change your thoughts at will. No one can have control over your thoughts without your permission.

To know true wisdom is to avoid those thoughts that weaken you and entertain those thoughts that make you feel strong. Your power rests within that choice. Slay the giant daily.
