Life ALWAYS provides clues. This is not the main message but keep this in mind. Got up early this morning and had Emmet Fox on my mind. I have a copy of his book “Around the Year with Emmet Fox” and wondered what today’s entry would offer. [For those of you who don’t know Emmet (1886-1951) – he was a scientist, philosopher and spiritual teacher and was a leader of the New Thought Movement and an early contributor to Alcoholics Anonymous.]
I LOVE to be inspired so I enthusiastically turned to the March 7th entry and began reading:
Sit down quietly where you are not likely to be disturbed. Relax the body – and begin to think of yourself. Every time your thought wanders to something higher, bring it back gently but relentlessly.
(So far so good…)
Think about the past. Think over all the mistakes you have made, going right back to childhood. Think over all the opportunities you have missed and the time you have wasted. Especially think of all the occasions upon which you have been badly treated.
Think about your body and wonder if your age or your job or the climate isn’t beginning to tell. See if you cannot discover a pain or an ache somewhere.
Think about finances and if they are going well now, insist this is probably too good to last.
In any case, think about yourself, that is the main point and if you will keep this up faithfully for fifteen or twenty minutes there can be no doubt about the result.
My first thought was how comfortable I was with the exercise. It was easy. So unlike those other exercises that force you to come out of your comfort zone – I WAS COMFORTABLE. I knew ALL the answers.
It was only then that I glanced back at the top of the page to see today’s theme:
HOW TO BE UNHAPPY
Did I just get punked? 🙂
Thank you Universe for reminding me that I can choose to either focus on my life in the past lane or on what I can do to make a difference in the present.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him (Proverbs 26:12)
